Term to Term Setup

Yellowdig requires minimal instructor setup each term. These steps should be completed during pre-term set up before the term starts. Students will not be able to access Yellowdig if these steps are skipped!

Step 1

Locate Yellowdig Community

Canvas navigation Yellowdig Community button outlined and arrowed

In your Canvas course, select Yellowdig Community.

Note: If you do not see the Yellowdig Community link, it can be added within the course settings page, See How do I manage Course Navigation links?

Step 2

Create New Community

Information A-G to create a new community, with submit button outlined and arrowed

After you locate your template link in the Information for Instructors module (IFI), access Yellowdig from your Canvas course. You'll be prompted to create the Yellowdig Community. Fill in the following:

  1. Community Organization: Select ERAU Worldwide.
  2. Paste a template link: Copy and paste the template link. This is found in the Action Items section of the Course Setup and Information page located in the IFI. After pasting the template link the remaining information should be autofilled.

The template contains initial and draft posts from the course developer. Copying from a template also copies the developer's settings for scoring thresholds, topic tags, word count, etc.

When you create the community, you become the 'owner' of the initial and draft posts, the latter of which can be used throughout the term. The developer may include draft posts that should be posted by the instructor each week, so be sure to thoroughly review the requirements listed in the Information for Instructors (IFI) of your Canvas course as well as the content of any draft posts.

Once you have filled in all of the fields, select SUBMIT and move onto Step 3.

Step 3

Continue Community Set-Up

When you enter the community for the first time, you'll be presented with on-screen setup instructions. Select Continue.

Step 4

Term Dates

Select start and end dates outlined with Enable Participation Points checked and outlined

Enter the first day of the term and the last day of the course. Given most terms end on Sundays at 11:59 pm, you will then select that Sunday of term end. This will show as Sun - 11:59PM - Midnight. And of course, if the term ends on a different day of the week, then select the day the term ends.

The goal for a 9-week term is to create 9 earning periods as depicted in the image here. If you see that the first earning period is 1 week, 6 days long, or 1 week, 1 day long, then you must reselect the end date. Make sure it is the term end date.

Also, be sure Enable Participation Points is checked. Select Continue.

Step 5

Chose Topics

Add Topics and require topics selected and outlined then continue arrowed

Topics for the community have already been created by the course developer. You are welcome to add topics of your own at this time; otherwise, do not remove any preloaded topics.

Be sure Topics are required is selected. Select Continue.

Step 6

Training Material

Step 7
