Tutoring for Students

Your instructor is always the first point of contact for your course, however, Embry-Riddle is pleased to offer a 24/7 tutoring service for many subjects. This service provides you with ten hours of free tutoring per month regardless of how many courses you are taking.

Accessing Tutoring

There are several ways to get help:

  • Connect with a Tutor Now
  • Schedule a Session
  • Drop Off Your Work
  • Test Prep and Self-Study

If you decide to use any of the services, select the "Tutoring" item in the left menu of the course.

If you do not see Tutoring on the left menu, tutoring services are unavailable for that course.

  • For the best experience, you should have a headset with a microphone.
  • Be sure to have specific questions for your tutor in front of you. If you're stuck on a problem or have a question about your paper, have those handy before contacting your tutor to save time. Remember, each student has ten hours of tutoring per month, so it is suggested to prepare for a live tutor by writing out the problems and questions ahead of connecting so you are ready.
  • A stable internet connection is a must. Make sure you are not streaming video, downloading files, or playing games in another browser window, or on another computer that shares your internet connection.
  • For more information about technology requirements, visit the Worldwide Computer Requirements page.

Tutoring Types

Connect with a Tutor Now

  • Select your subject from the drop-down menu and then choose what type of help you need. You will be able to upload files, schedule, or be directly connected to a tutor. Complete the pre-session questionnaire so that you can be connected to a tutor that best suits your needs. To maximize session time, please have your specific questions or assignments ready.

  • In the top navigation menu, choose the type of workspace you want to use. Choices include whiteboard, word processor, graphing calculator, code editor, and slides. You can share the following file types with your tutor: DOC, .DOCX, .PDF, .PPT, .TXT, .XLS as well as share your own screen with your tutor. The in-session Whiteboard allows both the tutor and student to work out problems together in real-time using a mouse and keyboard to draw or type.

  • Participants communicate through a chat interface. If you have a headset with a microphone, you can also communicate with the in-session voice feature. This makes getting help much easier! Be sure to choose the appropriate audio device. Your device's internal microphone may be selected by default. All audio in the session is recorded so that you can play it back afterwards.
  • After the session, you can review chat transcripts, recordings of your interaction, essay reviews, and other documents from your digital file locker.
  • You will receive a post-session survey to provide feedback about your experience. You will also be able to save, replay, email, and print a transcription of your session.
  • If you need more time, you can personally purchase hours by going to Tutor.com

Drop Off Your Work

  • Participants can also use the Writing Review feature.
  • With tutor.com you can drop your paper off for a tutor to review and leave feedback. To do this simply click on the Drop Off Your Work button.

  • Fill out a few questions and send in your essay. You will receive a completed feedback form which you can view in your previous sessions page under My account.

  • tutor.com drop off your work menu
    1. Fill out the form to provide the tutor with information about the assignment and topic and the citation style you are using so they can give the best guidance.
    2. Upload your document. Accepted file formats are: .doc, .docx and txt.
    3. Within 12 hours your document will be returned with suggestions for corrections.
    4. Any time the tutor spends reviewing your document will be deducted from your 10-hour monthly allotment.
  • In most cases, a live session will be the best option as you can discuss the details of your assignment in real time but tutor.com understands that not everyone has the time for a live session. For best results when dropping off your paper, try to give as much detail about the assignment as well as whether or not you are turning in an outline as its own assignment or would just like feedback on a draft.
  • If you are submitting a paper multiple times be sure to include any necessary revisions from a prior drop-off session.

Test Prep and Self-Study

  • Take practice tests for different subjects such as Algebra, Calculus, English, Physics and more.
