AutoDraw

autodraw logo

AutoDraw by Google is a web-based drawing program that uses standard drawing tools (shapes, text, fills) and combines them with artificial intelligence (AI) assisted drawing. AutoDraw is ideal for basic clip-art creation with a simple, easy-to-use interface.

Tool Requirements

Supported Browsers

  • Latest version of Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari

Operating System

  • Windows 10 or higher
  • Mac OS 10.9 or higher

Internet Connection

  • Internet is required to view and edit content

Software Access

  • Web application
  • IOS app available

Account

  • No account necessary

Features

  • Create drawings in landscape and portrait mode or resize the canvas to any dimension.
  • The unique aspect of AutoDraw is the artificial intelligence (AI) assisted tool also called “AutoDraw”.
  • When you draw the basic shape of an object, AutoDraw will use AI analysis to guess what is being illustrated. It then provides a list of possible clipart images to select from and replace the drawing.
  • Share on Twitter, Google+, and via URL.

Considerations

  • Consider Sketchpad for detailed creations.
  • Limited ability to recolor, resize, and rotate images. Sketchpad has more advanced editing and drawing tools.
  • AutoDraw will save a single drawing in the browser window until the cookies are cleared, or the illustrator decides to “Start Over”. However, there is no way to permanently save the workspace in AutoDraw or open the same drawing in another browser.
  • Download as a PNG file only.

Sketchpad

Sketchpad logo

Sketchpad is a detailed web drawing tool used for creating and editing images. It can be used to annotate images or documents, as well as filter and edit images using colors, gradients, and blend modes. It is a free tool that features image and graphic-creating tools like stamps, brushes, and vector shapes.

Tool Requirements

Supported Browsers

  • Latest version of Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari

Operating System

  • Windows 10 or higher
  • Mac OS 10.9 or higher

Internet Connection

  • Internet is required to view and edit content

Software Access

  • Web application

Account

  • No account necessary

Features

  • Interface allows for extensive editing and customization of drawings.
  • Download your creation as a JPEG, PNG, PDF, SVG, or native Sketchpad file.
  • Share a link to your image using the Share feature.
  • The browser will autosave work online until cookies and cache are cleared. Sync your files with a Google Drive for long-term storage.

Considerations

  • Consider Autodraw for simpler drawings with clip art designs.
  • If you use the “share” export option, it will generate a link to a separate version of the image. The link cannot be password protected and the shared image is not changeable. However, the original image can still be edited if saved in the browser or Google Drive.
  • Pressure-sensitive graphics tablets are not compatible. You can use your mouse or tablet computer to draw.
