Splunk

Program logo

Splunk is an industry-standard information security tool. It allows users to capture, index, and correlate real-time data in a repository. For educational purposes, simulated data can be analyzed and users can produce dashboards and visualizations using the data. Worldwide students using Splunk at ERAU will first gain access to the 60-day Splunk Enterprise free trial and then automatically to a free Splunk account.

The purpose of this guide is to help students install the trial, set up Splunk instance for classroom use, and import data for analyzing This guide is intended for Windows or Mac users; Linux users must reach out to Splunk directly for help setting up your instance and importing data. Visit the Splunk Community page for support information.

Administrative permissions/control over your computer is required. If for some reason, there is no way for you to gain administrative control of your computer, please contact your Instructor immediately, as it may effect your eligibility to take the class.

Quick Guidance

Laptops or desktops are necessary as Splunk does not work on mobile devices - you can review specifics about supported operating systems in the
Splunk Enterprise Installation Manual.

Note: You must complete steps for both Getting Started and Configure Your Instance before completing Splunk-related course work. Failure to do so may cause issues with output information.
