Using Perusall

There are several features and capabilities that you should become familiar with to use Perusall to its fullest. Content under Student Tools mimics the information provided on the Perusall Student Guide.

Facilitating Meaningful, Student-Led Annotations

An instructor can annotate and comment in the same way students can. However, Perusall strongly recommends minimal instructor interaction in order to promote student engagement and ownership of the material. Students can post questions, but instructors are encouraged to monitor other students' answers to the question and upvote accurate responses rather than responding directly.

How can an instructor engage with students in Perusall?
  • Post follow up, probing questions
  • Help students synthesize by tagging students in related threads/comments
  • Upvote model responses (What is upvoting, and how do I upvote comments?)
  • Add hashtags for emerging thread themes (What are hashtags and how do they work?)
  • Post links/videos to comment threads
