Getting Started

To access OSHA's Hazard Identification Training Tool, navigate to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration website. To download the application, select your operating system from the menu.

Step 1

Locate Download

 Windows [ZIP 70MB] download button highlighted for selection.

After selecting the link under Getting Started, scroll down and select Windows [ZIP 70MB]

Step 2

Open Downloaded File

Open the downloaded file. If you are using Google Chrome, the download will appear at the top right corner of the browser.

Step 3

Extracting Files

Select Extract all

Step 4

Choose File Extract Location

Browse labeled 1 and Extract labeled 2 for selection in that order.

To select the destination to extract the file follow the steps below:

  1. Select Browse... to change the folder location of the files being extracted.
  2. Once location is selected, select Extract.

Step 5

Open Folder

The extracted folder will automatically open in a new window. Open the HazID-Windows folder.

Step 6

Launch Application

Open the HazID application.

Step 7

Locate Current Screen Resolution

Display resolution in Windows settings highlighted for observation.

When you open the application, you will be prompted to select your screen resolution.

To find your screen resolution, open your Display settings. This will open your computer settings. Scroll down until you see display resolution.

Step 8

Play

Follow the steps below:

  1. Enter this display resolution into the HazID program.
  2. Deselect the windowed checkbox. This will ensure you have access to all the buttons in the simulation.

  3. Note: You may select any Graphics quality, however, Fastest is recommended.

  4. Select Play! to begin.

Note: The application does not save your work. If the screen resolution is selected incorrectly at this step, you will have to close the application and reopen it to change the resolution, resulting in lost progress.

Now you are ready to use the OSHA HazID tool. To begin using the tool, select the simulation you would like to run in the Simulations sub-menu in the Using OSHA navigation at the top of this guide.

It has been reported that the OSHA software will not run on versions of MacOS that are later than macOS 10.14 - Mojave.

Mac Haz ID needs to be updated warning.

You may attempt to download the MacOS version, however, please refer to the list of recommended virtualization options available on the Embry-Riddle's Worldwide Computer Requirements: Mac Users page if you receive an error. These virtualization options will allow you to run a Windows operating system on a Mac computer.
