Studio (Screen Recording)

Studio logo

Studio is a Canvas native media tool, which allows you to create, submit, and collaborate with original content. For screen recording with video and audio, Studio can be used to capture a desktop recording for discussion and assignment submissions.

Tool Requirements

Supported Browsers

  • Latest version of Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari

Operating System

  • Windows 10 or higher
  • Mac OS 10.9 or higher

Internet Connection

  • Internet is required to view and edit content

Software Access

  • Web application
  • Screen Capture Application (download from Canvas)

Account

  • Studio option located in your Canvas navigation bar

Features

  • Record a slide show, infographic, or simulation using screen recording and voice-over narration.
  • Create presentations that mimic navigation and timing as if you were in front of an audience.
  • Studio will link directly to your computer's webcam and microphone.
  • Create a screen recording and video simultaneously, where your webcam will show your face in the corner of the video while you also record your desktop screen.
  • Viewers can comment on specific points on the video's timeline.
  • Enable closed captioning for created videos.
  • Created media is accessible after course completion.
  • Add tags to your media for easier searching.
  • Replace the thumbnail of your video with an image.

Considerations

  • If submitting media and other files for an assignment, you must upload them separately. Canvas will only display your most recent submission for you to review, but your instructor will see all submissions.
  • Comments left within media cannot be graded by instructors or fulfill response requirements. Also, any comments your instructor leaves in the media will only be visible to you if the media is the most recent submission. Turn off comments to avoid any issues.
  • Limit your recording to five minutes or 10 GB for optimal upload.
  • If making longer media, use a lower resolution for recording. Consider using your webcam’s built-in recording software and then upload the media using Studio’s upload media feature.
