Getting Started

Before you create your account, there are some important pieces of information to consider:

While educational access is available with an application to Figma, the functionality of the free version is enough for classroom use. To have more than 2 total editors, you'll need to apply for educational access to Figma Professional.

Figma can be downloaded on a desktop or laptop, or used directly in the browser (both versions require internet access). The desktop application requires administrative access to install. The browser version becomes very slow if you're adding several objects to a frame - if your product design is involved, consider using the desktop version instead.

Figma will not work on a mobile device; the browser version is accessible on mobile devices, but files will be read-only. Tablets with a full desktop OS like Microsoft Surface or Chrome books (with ChromeOS) will work.

Step 1

Figma Sign Up

Proceed to the Figma website. Select Sign up.

Step 2

Create Account

You may sign up using your Google account or by entering your ERAU email and setting a password. Select Create account.

Step 3

Verify Email

Look for the verification email in your inbox and select the Verify Email link.

Step 4

Create Profile

Enter your name, then press continue.

Step 5

Create Profile

Select Student, then press continue.

Step 6

Create Profile

Select Higher Education, then press continue.

Step 7

Create Profile

Select At a school, then press continue.

Step 8

Create Profile

Select Students and Educators, then press continue.

Step 9

Create Profile

If you're working in a team or have other collaborators in mind, input their emails in the input boxes or copy the link using the Copy link to invite link to share it with them. If you do not have any collaborators, press Continue or Skip.

Step 10

Create Profile

Select Using it for school, then press continue.

Step 11

Create Profile

Select No, it's my first time, then press continue.

Step 12

Create Profile

Select the Starter plan, then press continue.

Step 13

Download Desktop Version

Once you've logged in, the browser version of the tool is immediately available. Navigate to Figma Downloads to download the desktop version.
